Lehigh falls to Stony Brook 56-49 in New York

Sophomore Jose Olivero led Lehigh with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field. He was joined in double figure scoring by backcourt mate Joe Knight who tallied 11 points. The Seawolves were paced by Mitchell Beauford who scored 16 points and Cori Spencer, who scored 14 points all in the first half. Niether team shot well as the Mountain Hawks shot 29.8% for the game and an amazing 6% in the second half. Lehigh connected on only two of 30 field goal attempts in the second half. Stony Brook after a rough start managed to shoot 35.8% for the game.
Still, Lehigh did have a chance to claim victory. After trailing by as many as eight points with three minutes left the Mountain Hawks rallied. Olivero hit a three-pointer with 1:51 remaining to pull Lehigh within 46-45, but on the ensuing possession Bobby Santiaqo connected on a drive to the hoop, was fouled and made the ensuing foul shot to again increase the Stony Brook lead to four. Lehigh could get no closer than three points the rest of the way.
Lehigh held Stony Brook without a field goal for the first seven minutes of the contest and Olivero scored nine of the Mountain Hawks first 11 points as the Brown and White opened up that 11-0 lead to begin the game. The
Stony Brook was led by Cori Spencer who hit for 14 first half points, including four of four from the free throw line and five of six from the field. The Seawolves connected on 41 percent of their shots for the half and 80 percent from the charity stripe. Mike Popoko led Stony Brook with five rebounds, three of them on the offensive end in the opening half.
Lehigh returns to action on Monday evening when the Mountain Hawks play host to Ivy League foe
