Borda's name added to Payton Award watch list

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh junior quarterback Mark Borda has been added to the Walter Payton Award watch list.  The Payton Award is presented annually by The Sports Network to the top player in Division I-AA.  The honor is voted on by sports information directors and media members, and will be presented at the 18th annual I-AA awards in Chattanooga, Tenn., on December 16.

 

Borda is having quite a season in his debut campaign as the Mountain Hawks’ starting signal caller.  He ranks fifth nationally in passing efficiency, with a quarterback rating of 159.2.  For the season, the Bethlehem native has completed 64% of his passes (143-of-223), for 1896 yards and 19 touchdowns.  Borda has twice thrown five touchdown passes in a single game.

 

 

The junior has helped lead the ninth-ranked Mountain Hawks to six consecutive victories.  Borda’s efforts have not gone unnoticed in the Patriot League.  He earned league Player of the Week recognition three consecutive weeks between October 11 and October 25.

 

Lehigh (7-1 overall, 3-0 Patriot League) returns to action Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks visit Georgetown in a Patriot League clash.  Kick-off is set for 12:30 from Harbin Field in Washington.
