Mountain Hawks take perfect league mark to Georgetown

11/2/2004 12:00:00 AM | Football

Lehigh is halfway towards a perfect Patriot League season, with the three remaining conference games coming against Georgetown, Fordham and Lafayette.  On Saturday, No. 9 Lehigh visits Georgetown.  Last time out, Lehigh snapped Colgate’s 15-game Patriot League winning streak with a 21-14 triumph in front of almost 14,000 fans at Goodman Stadium.  The Mountain Hawks look to beat Georgetown for the fourth straight time while the Hoyas look to cash in on their home field advantage.  Both Georgetown wins this season have come at Harbin Field, including a 21-0 win over VMI in their homecoming game on October 6.

Last time they met, Lehigh junior quarterback Kyle Keating had a career day, as he threw for 344 yards and six touchdowns, which tied a school record set in 1993 by Scott Semptimphelter, as Lehigh defeated Georgetown 45-24 at Harbin Field. Junior tight end Adam Bergen was on the receiving end of many of those Keating passes, also tying a school record, hauling in 14 catches on the afternoon, equaling the marks set by Rob Varano and Rennie Benn.

Lehigh leads the all-time series between these two schools, 4-3.  Lehigh has won the last three games after Georgetown won three of the first four matchups between 1901 and 1911. The teams didn’t face off again until 2001.  In Patriot League play, the Mountain Hawks have out-scored the Hoyas 155-38 (average score of 52-13).

Saturday’s game kicks off at 12:30 from Harbin Field in Washington, D.C.  The game will not be televised, but it can be heard live on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 in the Lehigh Valley and worldwide on Lehigh’s web site at lehighsports.com.
