Lewisburg, PA – Lehigh used a balanced scoring attack, which included three goals from junior Mary Beth Kuenne to defeat Bucknell 6-4 in a key Patriot League showdown on Saturday afternoon.  With the win, Lehigh improves to 8-9 on the season, 1-3 in league action, while Bucknell falls to 5-12, 1-4 in Patriot League play.  The win was Lehigh’s first within the Patriot League since October 18, 2001 versus Ursinus.

Lehigh got on the board first when Sheila Clabby scored on an unassisted goal at the 17:17 mark of the first half to put the Mountain Hawks in front 1-0.  Sophomore Moira Garrity then added to the Lehigh lead on a penalty stroke at the 33:05 mark and Lehigh was in front 2-0, until Chyncia Smith scored late in the first half, making the score 2-1, which would be the score at halftime.

Lehigh came out in the second half and scored two goals, both by Kuenne in a span of 1:35.  Kristi Miller and Krista Jamieson assisted on the first goal and the second came via a penalty stroke to put the Mountain Hawks in front 4-1.

Bucknell would then trim the lead to one on the strength of two goals by Alew Kyzmdr and Kelly Hoffman, the second coming at 43:15.  Kelsey Smith quickly ended the Bison run however as she tipped the ball into the net off of a penalty corner play.  Hoffman then assisted on Anne Lutz’s goal at the 57:31 mark and the game was one again a one-goal affair at 5-4.

But Kuenne came back and scored on more time, again on a penalty corner and again assisted by Jamieson and Iannarone.  Lehigh had 24 shots on the day to Bucknell’s 15, while the Mountain Hawks had eight penalty corners, the Bison nine.  Senior Jeanine Hoff started in goal for Lehigh and played the entire 70 minutes sending back eight Bison shots on the afternoon.

Jamieson ended her day with three assists, while Kuenne unleashed 12 shots to lead the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday when the Mountain Hawks play host to archrival Lafayette in the 2004 home finale.  Game time is set for 7:00 and all of the action can be heard live on lehighsports.com.
