Rider proves too much for Lehigh

10/20/2004 12:00:00 AM | Field Hockey

Lawrenceville, NJ – The Lehigh goalkeeping tandem of Jeanine Hoff and Meghan Gove registered a season-high 15 saves, but it wasn’t enough as Rider rolled to a 5-1 victory over the Mountain Hawks on Wednesday afternoon.  The game was tied 1-1 at halftime, but the Broncs (13-2 overall) exploded for four second half goals en route to the victory.

After Rider took a 1-0 lead just 6:13 into the contest, the Mountain Hawks settled down.  Lehigh (7-9 overall) tied the contest with 5:02 remaining in the first half as Marissa Ianaronne scored her fifth goal of the season off a feed from Sheila Clabby.  Ianaronne and Clabby are now tied for the team lead with 16 points apiece on the season.

Despite Rider out-shooting Lehigh 17-4 over the first 35 minutes, the score was knotted up at 1-1 at halftime.  The Broncs quickly distanced themselves, as they were sizzling early in the second half.  Maddy Boulden scored less than ten minutes into the second half to make the score 2-1, and just three minutes later, a Stephanie Walker score gave Rider a 3-1 advantage.  The Broncs added two additional goals down the stretch.

Rider out-shot Lehigh 33-10 on the afternoon.  Lehigh senior goalkeeper Jeanine Hoff did all she could to help her team in the first half.  The tri-captain registered 10 saves during the first 35 minutes.  Junior Meghan Gove added five more stops for Lehigh in the game's second period.

The Broncs had 15 penalty corners in the match, while Lehigh had 10.

The Mountain Hawks resume Patriot League play on Saturday, as Lehigh visits Bucknell.  Action is set to get underway at 1:00 from Lewisburg.
