The Mountain Hawks got on the board first when Karilyn Anderson took a pass from senior Jocelyn Helwig on a great cross and found the back of the net at the 21:36 mark to put Lehigh in front 1-0. The game would remain that way through halftime and until the 72nd minute until American was able to even the score at one on the strength of Jana Lee’s goal off an assist from Meg Runeari. The two teams then battled for the remaining 18 minutes of regulation, but to no avail, and so the match headed for overtime.
In the extra session, Marcela Ricuupero took a pass on the right side of the field from Siobhan Gillan and fired it past Lehigh goal keeper Erin Iwaskiewicz for the game-winner. Iwaskiewicz was brilliant in goal for Lehigh, making several key saves on the afternoon, and finished with three on the day. American goal keeper Alison Doyle sent back two Mountain Hawk shots of her own on the afternoon.
Lehigh was outshot 16-4 on the day and had only three corners to the Eagles 11.
