Princeton, NJ – No. 5 Lehigh (13-3, 5-0 EIWA) won its ninth straight with a 31-12 win over Princeton (1-5, 0-1 EIWA) on Friday evening. Freshman Derek Zinck, senior Ted Dufresne, and junior All-American Jon Trenge all won by fall as the Mountain Hawks walked away with the win.
After Lehigh quickly fell behind 9-0, Zinck and Dufresne grabbed the lead back for Lehigh when he scored a pair of falls at 157 and 165. Junior Brad Dillon followed them with a technical fall as the Mountain Hawks went up 17-9. The Tigers closed the score to 17-12, before Trenge made short work of Matt Fisher at 197, picking up the fall in just 1:38.
"I knew it would be an interesting dual without three of our starters," said head coach Greg Strobel. "Our guys fought hard and every match was winnable. Once we got into the strength of our lineup, we put the match away."
The Mountain Hawks return to action next weekend with a pair of duals. Lehigh hosts NC State on Friday at Stabler Arena, with Cornell coming to town the following afternoon. The face off with the Wolfpack is scheduled to begin at 7:00, with Cornell starting at 1:00 Saturday afternoon. Both matches will be carried live on both the Lehigh website at www.lehigh.edu and on 1230 AM, The Sports Monster. Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh will televise both matches; the showdown with Cornell being aired live, while NC State will be broadcast via tape delay.
