Bethlehem, PA – No. 8 Lehigh (11-3, 2-0 EIWA) defeated Brown (6-5, 0-1 EIWA) Saturday afternoon at Stabler Arena by a final of 38-3. The Mountain Hawks won nine of the ten bouts.
The match started at 174, where No. 10, junior Brad Dillon had a major decision (15-4) over senior Adam Santee. Freshman Travis Frick, No. 14, wrestled at 184 for Lehigh and won with a 3-2 decision over Nick Ciarcia. Brown opted to forfeit the following match against junior All-American Jon Trenge at 197. The Mountain Hawks would win the following two matches before senior, Tristan Boyd lost (6-1) in a hard fought battle against No. 11 Clint Fease of Brown. Juniors Joe Sahl and Mario Stuart each notched convincing wins for the Mountain Hawks. Sahl picked up a technical fall (22-6) against Lee Beane of Brown at heavyweight. At 125, Stuart won (8-3) in a decision over Lucas Magnani. But perhaps the most exciting match of the afternoon came from freshman Corey Cooperman at 133 against Greg Pace. No. 8 Cooperman won by fall against Greg Pace at 5:38. Sophomore, Tommy Rohn won in a (9-5) decision over David Saadeh at 149. Freshmen Derek Zinck and Troy Letters both won in major decisions (16-4) over Mike Savino and Seab Jenkins (14-2), respectively, to close out the match for Lehigh.
"We recovered well from last night," head coach Greg Strobel said. "It’s always hard to come right back and wrestle two days in a row, but our guys came out with a lot of energy."
Lehigh competes against Harvard at 3:00 p.m. at Stabler Arena next. The match is being televised live on Service Electric Cable TV-2 and will be re-broadcast Sunday at 1:00 on Fox Sports Pittsburgh. Viewers with DirecTV can find the re-broadcast on channel 628.
