Iowa City, IA – Lehigh’s efforts for a first-ever weekend sweep in the state of Iowa fell short as the Mountain Hawks dropped a 25-13 decision to the University of Iowa on Sunday afternoon. The loss to the second ranked Hawkeyes left seventh ranked Lehigh with a split of its weekend dual matches after the Mountain Hawks defeated 11th ranked Iowa State 26-12 on Saturday night.
Against the Hawkeyes, four Lehigh wrestlers emerged victorious including second ranked Jon Trenge who routed 16th ranked Ryan Fulsaas 21-14. Lehigh’s Cory Cooperman is certain to improve on his national ranking of 12 after upsetting fourth seeded Cliff Moore 8-2. The same can also be said for 15th ranked Derek Zinck, who upset sixth ranked Matt Anderson 8-4. Lehigh’s other winner was seventh ranked Troy Letters who won by major decision over Jason D’Agata 10-2.
Lehigh (1-2), which has wrestled only nationally ranked teams so far in its dual schedule returns home to Stabler Arena this Saturday to host the Sheridan Duals beginning at 10:00 a.m.
