Lehigh trounces Tar Heels

Bethlehem, PA- In front of an enthusiastic crowd of 1222, 12th ranked Lehigh defeated North Carolina 32-7, tying the series at two. Lehigh moves to 11-5 on the season, while the Tar Heels drop to 11-5.
At 165, fourth ranked Chris Vitale brought the crowd to its feet after capturing a 17-5 major decision over Tar Heel Chris Guiseppe in the first bout. Vitale seemed possessed in the third period. After a scoreless first period and scoring only one takedown in the second, Vitale recorded four takedowns and a three point near fall in the final period to improve his record to 18-1.
In a close bout at 174, Brad Dillon tabbed an 8-6 decision over Mark Canty. The wrestlers traded takedowns and escapes before Dillon recorded his seventh consecutive win.
Rob Rohn, ranked seventh in the nation, had the crowd on its feet once again. Rohn recorded an escape, four takedowns, and a near fall en route to his 12-3 major decision over North Carolina’s Nick Richmond. Rohn scored the final takedown with 12 seconds left to earn the major decision and bring the crowd to its feet.
At 197, second ranked Jon Trenge recorded the first pin of the match and the third standing ovation. Trenge pinned North Carolina’s Austin Wall in 3:58, giving him his fifth straight win. Today’s pin gives Trenge five in dual meets this season.
In the heavyweight bout Shawn Laughlin continues to improve his record. Laughlin recorded his second straight win, pinning Ryan Adams in 2:28. Laughlin now stands at 8-7 on the season.
In the most anticipated bout of the afternoon, Mario Stuart earned a 6-2 decision over the Tar Heel’s Chris Rodrigues at 125. Stuart handed Rodrigues his first loss in nine bouts, and recorded his fifth consecutive win. Stuart having an impressive second half of the season, now stands at 13-7.
At 133, Anthony Shave stepped in for Dan Hyman. Shave dropped 14-1 major decision to North Carolina’s Evan Sola, giving the Tar Heel’s their first points of the match.
Tommy Rohn was back in the lineup for Lehigh at 141. In close bout Brad Byers recorded an 11-9 decision over Rohn, to give North Carolina seven. Rohn now falls to 4-7 on the season.
At 149, Troy Minarovic earned his second consecutive win. Minarovic tabbed a 5-3 decision over Mike Booth. Minarovic is now 6-7 on the season.
In the final bout of the afternoon Warren Stout recorded an 8-5 decision over James O'Connor. Stout is now stands at an impressive 10-3 in duals and 22-10 overall.
This afternoon's match will be aired tape delayed on Service Electric TV-2 at 9:30 tonight.
