Lehigh slips past Brown

Providence, RI- In another close battle Lehigh defeated Brown 20-14 to remain undefeated in the EIWA. The Mountain Hawks now 9-5 overall, improve to 5-0 in the EIWA, while the Bears fell to 7-4.
Rob Rohn bumped up from 184 to 197 in order to give Jon Trenge a break. Trenge will rest up for his face off against Cael Sanderson in the NWCA All-Star match tomorrow night at Hofstra. Tenth ranked Rohn had no trouble scoring the 5-3 decision over Brown’s Karl Rittger to give Lehigh its first points of the match. Rohn now with eight consecutive wins, moves to 16-4 on the season.
In the heavyweight bout Brown’s 20th ranked, Bronson Lingamfeltner handed Shawn Laughlin his fifth consecutive loss. Lingamfeltner recorded a 6-1 decision over Laughlin to tie the score at three.
At 125, Mario Stuart continued his winning ways recording a 22-9 major decision over Brown’s Ryan Gill. Stuart scored an impressive ten takedowns, one escape, and riding time to put the Mountain Hawks back on top.
At 133, Lehigh’s Dan Hyman fell in a close 2-1 decision to the Bear’s Rob Apgar. After a scoreless first period Hyman was able to record a quick escape at the start of the second period. Apgar countered with a takedown to earn the win, and bring Brown within one.
Having a rough time making a come back, Tommy Rohn lost his second bout of the day. At 141, Rohn fell to the Bear’s Clint Frease in a 13-4 major decision.
At 149, Brown recorded its second consecutive major decision. Jason Mercado tabbed a 14-4 major decision over Lehigh’s Troy Minarovic to extend the Bear’s lead to seven.
At 157, Warren Stout recorded two near falls, three takedowns and an escape en route to his 12-4 major decision win over Brown’s Jesse Savage. Stout now has four consecutive wins with two of them coming over EIWA ranked opponents.
Nate Cote continued to fill in for an injured Chris Vitale at 165. Cote revenged his tough loss at Harvard, defeating Brown’s Sean Jenkins 7-5 in an overtime bout. Cote scored a takedown with less then ten seconds left to earn the overtime win and tie the score at 14.
At 174, Brad Dillon earned his fifth straight win, recording a 6-3 decision over the Bear’s Adam Santee. Dillon’s win put the Mountain Hawks back on top.
In the final bout of the evening James Moore wrestled at 184 for Rob Rohn who wrestled the first bout at 197 for Jon Trenge. Moore held on to record an 11-9 decision over Brown’s Nick Ciarcia to seal the win for Lehigh.
Lehigh continues its road schedule as the team travels to Rider on February 7th. That dual is scheduled to begin at 7:00.
