Stony Brook, NY – Freshman Lauren Calabrese picked up her third goal of the season off a free kick but it wasn’t enough as Stony Brook snapped Lehigh’s four-match winning streak with a 2-1 victory over the Mountain Hawks on the field turf at LaValle Stadium on Wednesday night. The win improves the Seawolves’ record to 2-2-1 on the season, while the setback drops the Mountain Hawks to 4-2.
Victoria Feliciano scored on a penalty kick in the 18th minute to put the Seawolves out in front by a 1-0 score. The score remained that way into the second half, until Stony Brook picked up a second goal when Joy Gueverra found the back of the net in the 59th minute. The Mountain Hawks got on the board in the 86th minute when Calabrese scored what turned out to be the lone goal of the night.
"We never got in any kind of rhythm out there tonight," said Lehigh head coach Manny Oudin after the loss. "They are a good team, an athletic team, and our slow start gave them the advantage they needed to get the win."
Lehigh returns home Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks begin Patriot League play against arch-rival Lafayette. Kick-off is set for 7:00, and the action can be heard live on the Lehigh web site at www.lehigh.edu.
