Bethlehem, PA – Junior Jermaine Pugh rushed for 134 yards and one touchdown in leading 23rd ranked Lehigh to a 24-0 victory over Bucknell. Junior quarterback Chad Schwenk was limited to his pass attempts due to the inclement weather, but still threw for 98 yards and one touchdown. Senior Mike Kelleher was the recipient of the Schwenk touchdown, which was a five-yard post in the back of the end zone that put the Mountain Hawks up 14-0, early in the 3rd quarter.
"I’m proud of the way our team bounced back today," Lehigh head coach Pete Lembo said. "We played well in many aspects of the game."
Due to rainy conditions, Lehigh was forced to go with the ground attack, but that did not bother the Mountain Hawks as they amassed over 150 yards as a team. Lehigh improved its record to 8-3 overall, 4-2 in the Patriot League, while Bucknell dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-6 in the league.
Junior David Wilson pounded out 31 yards on the ground including a three yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Junior Lawrence Williams was the defensive star for Lehigh as he recorded two interceptions on the day, bringing his career total to nine.
The Lehigh defense was once again very stingy, especially in the fourth quarter where they still have yet to surrender a touchdown. Lehigh has now outscored its opponents 105-6 in the fourth quarter. Senior co-captain Matt Salvaterra returned to the lineup after missing the last two games due to injury and seemed as though he never missed a beat as he recorded four and a half tackles on the day. The shutout was Lehigh’s second of the season, the most for a Lehigh team since 1981.
