Hamilton, NY – Lehigh rallied from a 20-point deficit in posting an 83-77 win over Colgate on Sunday afternoon. In the process, senior Anne Tierney became Lehigh’s all-time scoring leader. The win – Lehigh’s fourth straight – improves the Mountain Hawks’ record to 9-10 overall and 6-1 in Patriot League play. Colgate drops to 6-13 overall and 1-6 in the league with the defeat. Colgate came out blazing, and opened up a 40-20 lead with 3:33 left in the first half. The Raiders were led by the hot hand of Malissa Burke, who scored 15 first half points on 5-of-9 shooting. Burke finished with a team-high 19 points. Lehigh shot just 33% in the first 20 minutes, but were kept in the game by Dawn Gorynski. The freshman scored 16 first half points on 5-of-9 shooting to help Lehigh hang around. The Mountain Hawks trailed 45-31 at the break. In the second half, Lehigh continued its comeback, thanks in part to Tierney, Jess DePalo, and Carli Toliver. Tierney finished the afternoon with 14 points and eight rebounds, and sits alone atop Lehigh’s all-time scoring list with 1,705 career points. DePalo poured in 10 in the second half (12 total), and pulled down eight boards as well. Toliver was 4-of-4 from long range in the second half, finishing with 20 points on 5-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. It was a Toliver three with 10:59 left that gave Lehigh a 54-53 edge, a lead Lehigh would not relinquish. Gorynski led all scorers with a career-best 23 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Lehigh shot 59% from the floor in the second half, and the Mountain Hawks were 18-of-20 from the free throw line in the win. Lehigh also won the rebounding battle, and every Mountain Hawk that played pulled down at least one board. The first place Mountain Hawks return to Stabler Arena on Saturday to host Navy at 5:30.
