Tierney registers 1,000 rebounds in Lehigh win

Bethlehem, PA – Anne Tierney notched her 1,000th career rebound as Lehigh defeated Lafayette 70-43. Tierney became the first Lehigh player - and second in league history - to register more than 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career as Lehigh improved to 6-10 overall, 3-1 in the Patriot League. With the loss the Leopards fall to 2-14 overall, 1-3 in the Patriot League. Lehigh jumped out to an early 11-5 lead within the first six minutes of the game, however, the Leopards went on a 6-0 run over the next three minutes tying the game at 11-11. With the score again tied, this time at 17-17, the Mountain Hawks would go on a 13-0 run of their own, and take a 30-17 lead into the locker room at halftime. Tierney was Lehigh’s leading first half scorer, posting 10 points. Tierney also added 12 rebounds. The Mountain Hawks shot 36% from the floor, while Lafayette managed only a 26% output. The leading first half scorer for the Leopards was Colleen Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick tallied six points on a 2-of-3 performance. The second half was all Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks outscored the Leopards 40-26 en route to their sixth victory of the season. Carli Toliver tied Tierney for top scorer in the game, each managed 12 points. Tierney finished the game with 13 rebounds and was joined in the double-digit column by Jana Ransom. Ransom snagged 10 boards, while teammate Dawn Gorynski netted nine points and dished seven assists. On the Lafayette side, no player notched a double digit scoring output. The leading scorer for the Leopards was Ashley MacLelland. MacLelland posted eight points, while Colleen Fitzpatrick pulled down seven rebounds. Lehigh shot 42% for the game, going 28-of-67 from the floor, while Lafayette shot only 29% for the game, shooting a chilly 15-of-52 from the floor. Lehigh returns to action on Sunday vs. Army.
