Washington, DC – Anne Tierney scored 17 points and grabbed four rebounds but it wasn’t enough to propel Lehigh past American as the Mountain Hawks fell 69-57 to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena. Both teams are now 7-5 in league play. The Eagles are 12-12 overall; Lehigh is 11-14.

Both teams struggled to find a rhythm early but American soon found its mark. The Eagles led for much of the first half and took a 30-25 lead into the locker room at the half. Lehigh cut the lead to six midway through the second half but could not get any closer. The Mountain Hawks never trailed by more than fifteen in the second but could not find the right mix to get the win. American dominated Lehigh on the boards grabbing 44 to Lehigh’s 33.

Tierney led all scorers with her 17 points. She converted 7-of-10 attempts from the field and drained 2-of-3 from behind the arc. Billi Ford was the only other Lehigh player to score in double figures canning 12 points on the afternoon. Lehigh shot 42% from the field and 40% from behind the three-point line in the loss.

American had three players in double figures led by Hollie Steinman with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Kaitlin Schuyler scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Angel McNatt added ten points and four rebounds in the win.

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday evening when it travels to Easton to take on archrival Lafayette in the first game of a Patriot League doubleheader at Kirby Sports Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30.
