Lehigh squeaks out a 62-60 win

Easton, PA – Sophomore Carli Toliver scored 18 points and junior Anne Tierney added 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Lehigh escaped Kirby Sports Center with a 62-60 win on Wednesday evening. The Mountain Hawks entered the game heavily favored but came out a bit flat. Lehigh managed to recover however and upped its league record to 8-5 and moved into third place in the standings.
     

Lafayette (3-23, 1-12 Patriot) came out strong playing stingy defense opening the game with a 20-8 run. Lehigh quickly recovered however making a 14-2 run tying the game at 22 with 4:41 to go in the half. Lafayette did not quit however and the Leopards held a 31-28 lead heading into the locker room.
     

Lehigh (12-14) did not see its first lead of the game until the 4:37 mark of the second half when Cat Nicholson canned a three-pointer to put the Mountain Hawks up 58-56. A made lay-up by Jessica DePalo gave Lehigh its largest lead of the game 60-56 with 3:38. The Leopards crept back however tying the game at 60 with 2:12 to go. It stayed that way until Tierney made a lay-up with 33 seconds left putting the Brown and White up for good 62-60.
     

Toliver canned 6-of-15 from the field including five from behind the arc. She scored 10 of her 18 points in the second half and dished out two rebounds in the winning effort. Tierney recorded her 14th double-double of the season and her ninth in league play. DePalo tied a career high with 14 points and pulled down four rebounds. Lehigh shot 44% from the field but just 33% from behind the arc.
     

Elizabeth Rojahn led all scores with 21 points shooting 10-of-14 from the field. She added two rebounds and two steals in the losing effort. Colleen Fitzpatrick and Kim Costello each scored 10 points and Lindsey Myers added nine points for the Leopards who shot a bold 55% for the game.
     

Lehigh returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Bucknell at Stabler Arena. Tip-off is set for 1:00. With a win, the Mountain Hawks will clinch the number three seed in the Patriot League Tournament.
