Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh got a career best ten points from Dayne Mickelson and nine from Mike Cowgill as the Mountain Hawks defeated Swarthmore 83-46 at Stabler Arena on Wednesday night. The win improves the Mountain Hawks’ record to 2-1 on the season, while Swarthmore drops 2-2. Mickelson scored eight of his points in the first half, and Lehigh scored 20 points in the paint. Despite 12 first half points from Swarthmore’s Blair Haxel, Lehigh took a 41-32 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Mountain Hawks turned up the defensive intensity in the second half, and forced 11 Swarthmore turnovers, while holding the Garnet to just 14 second half points. On the night, Lehigh shot 52% from the field, including 6-of-7 from Patriot League Player of the Week Zlatko Savovic, who had 12 points. "Swarthmore played very well tonight," said head coach Billy Taylor. "We made some adjustments in the second half defensively and stepped up our play offensively. We had a good showing overall and we need to now focus on Hofstra this weekend." Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks visit Hofstra in the first round of the Hofstra/Wingate Tournament on Long Island. Tip-off is set for 7:00. Top Performers
