Lehigh upended by No. 25 Illinois

Champaign, IL – Lehigh fell to No. 25 Illinois Sunday evening 90-56, dropping its record to 1-1 for the season. Illinois improves to 1-0 following its season opening win. The Mountain Hawks were neck and neck with the Illini during the first nine minutes of the contest. With the score tied 15-15 Illinois went on a 32-11 run to close out the first half, taking a 47-24 lead to the locker room at halftime. In the second half the Illinois offense continued to shine, outscoring Lehigh 43-32 in the second half en route to the win. Zlatko Savovic set his second consecutive career high in points scored with 18. Matt Logie also managed 18 points, going 3-6 from three-point land, while Matt Crawford managed five rebounds. Ra Tiah picked up five assists and five points in the Lehigh loss. For Illinois, Roger Powell led his squad in scoring and rebounds with 15 points and nine boards. Dee Brown poured in 14 points and added six rebounds for the Illini. "Illinois is a very good team," said assistant head coach Brett Reed. "We did some good things offensively and were aggressive. We went out and tried to make some plays. Defensively we handled their pressure at times, but we can take this as a learning experience and use it to build for the remainder of the season." Lehigh returns to action Wednesday at Stabler Arena to face Swarthmore. Game time is 7:00 p.m. and the action can be heard live on 1470 WKAP. Top Performers
