Dartmouth slips past Lehigh

9/15/2003 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball

Hanover, NH – Sophomore Alex Jensen scored 16 points and dished out seven assists, but it wasn’t enough as Dartmouth (3-2) downed Lehigh (0-5) by a score of 72-67 at Leede Arena on Friday night. Jensen, who had no turnovers, was 4-8 from beyond the three-point arc.

Lehigh grabbed a quick 4-0 lead early on, before the see-saw affair began. Overall, there were ten lead changes on the night, and the Big Green held a 33-30 lead at halftime, thanks to 11 first half points from senior Flinder Boyd. Boyd finished the night with 16.

The Mountain Hawks battled back in the second half, but were unable to get over the hump. Co-captain Scott Taylor played hard underneath, and led Lehigh with 17 points on 7-9 shooting. Co-captain Matt Logie added 14 for the Mountain Hawks, who were as close at 64-61 before the Big Green pulled away.

After the game, associate head coach Jeff Wilson was pleased with his team’s play, despite the outcome. "I thought our guys fought hard all night," Wilson said. "They were hard to stop from the outside, and that was the difference."

On the night, Dartmouth shot 50% from the floor (26-52), and 50% from three-point land (12-24). Lehigh sank over 47% of its shots, but came up short in the end.

The Mountain Hawks will try to pick up their first win of the season on Sunday, when they travel to Burlington to run with the University of Vermont. Game time is set for 1:00 from Patrick Gym. The Lehigh-UVM clash marks game three of a season-long four-game road swing for Lehigh.
