Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh has been working extremely hard with various strength and conditioning programs in anticipation of its scrimmage on Sunday against Syracuse. The Mountain Hawks, who began preseason camp on August 13, are guided by first year coach Julie Mazer and feature the return of All-Patriot League second-team performers Blaire Goodwin and Jenna Walsh. Goodwin, a forward, produced a team-best nine goals, which placed her in a tie for eighth in the league standings. Walsh, was a key part of a Lehigh defense that allowed 2.08 goals per game. Emily Beil also returns for Lehigh after a junior season in which she started all 17 games and gained valuable experience along the way. Goodwin, Walsh, and Beil, all seniors, will serve as the team’s captains this season.
Junior Jeanine Hoff and sophomore Meghan Gove split time in the cage last season. In nine appearances, Hoff posted a 1.74 goals against average and an .830 save percentage, while Gove saw time in 11 contests, and posted a 2.29 GAA.
Lehigh, which was picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League in a poll of coaches and sports information directors, begins its season on August 30, against Albany, in the UConn Field Hockey Classic in Storrs, CT. Game time is set for 2:00.
