New York, NY – Lehigh defeated Columbia in a thriller on Friday night by a score of 2-1 in double overtime as senior Blaire Goodwin scored her fifth goal of the season with just over 1:30 to play in the second overtime. The Mountain Hawks are now 4-5 on the season, while the Lions remain winless at 0-7.
Both teams fought hard, but to no avail, as the game was scoreless heading into half time. Lehigh managed four corners to set up several scoring opportunities, but the Columbia defense proved worthy of the challenge.
The Mountain Hawks got on the board first when junior Dana Griffin scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Goodwin and Lehigh grabbed the 1-0 lead. Columbia quickly came back however, as Kate Mansur netted her second goal of the season to tie things up at one apiece.
The game would remain that way until the second overtime when Goodwin scored on a slow roller with 1:27 remaining to give Lehigh the huge road victory, its first of the season.
Lehigh returns to action on Sunday when the Mountain Hawks host Longwood at 1:00 at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
