Mountain Hawks lose to Georgetown

Washington, D.C.- In its third consecutive road game, Lehigh was defeated by Georgetown on Wednesday by a score of 3-1. The Hoyas jumped all over the Mountain Hawks, scoring all three goals before Lehigh could counter with any offense of its own. The loss drops Lehigh to 6-9 on the season and improves Georgetown to 4-8.
The Hoyas got on the board quickly as Leanne Rizzo scored the first of her two goals at the 21:47 mark of the first half off of a feed from Lauren Galbally. That duo connected again at the 29:58 mark and the Hoyas grabbed the 2-0 halftime lead. Jen Kosloski then assisted Jessica Quinn at the 50:22 mark to give Georgetown a lead it would not relinquish.
Lehigh managed to cut the lead to two when sophomore Mary Beth Kuenne scored Lehigh’s lone goal at the 55:16 mark. The goal, which was Kuenne’s first of the season, came off a corner and was fed to her by senior captain Blaire Goodwin.
Junior Jeanine Hoff got the start in goal for Lehigh and registered four saves on the afternoon, before making way to sophomore Meghan Gove who picked up one save in her 35 minutes of action.
Head Coach Julie Mazer would like to see her team take advantage of the many offensive opportunities that they were given. “We possessed the ball very well today, especially in the second half. We had plenty of opportunities, but just did not take advantage.” Mazer adds, “Mary Beth Kuenne played extremely well for us, she added a spark to the team that we really needed. She was aggressive, played great defense, and just had a very solid all around game today”
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday, when the Mountain Hawks welcome Patriot League foe Fairfield to the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game is set to begin at 1:00 and can be heard live on Lehigh’s website.
