Why Lehigh? “Lehigh has a good engineering school and strong athletics.”
In 2022-23: Began season at 184 before dropping down to 174 where he provided depth… won both of his dual appearances at Binghamton and Bucknell… went 3-0 and finished second at Mat Town Open II in late January... went 3-1 with two bonus wins at F&M Open… received Lehigh Athletics’ Distinguished Achievement Award at year-end Convocation.
In 2021-22: Moved up three weight classes to 184… one of four Mountain Hawks to wrestle in all 18 duals… qualified for NCAA Championships with third place EIWA finish… was named EIWA Wrestler of the Week on Jan. 10 after 2-0 weekend that included major decision over Binghamton’s Sam DePrez and win over top 15-ranked Jonathan Loew of Cornell… posted key win by fall over Arizona State’s Josh Nummer in dual finale… went 0-2 in first NCAA appearance… received EIWA Academic Achievement Award.
In 2020-21: Posted 2-2 record at 157… started three of seven duals… made dual debut against Andrew Cerniglia of Navy… posted first career dual win over Rider’s Cole McComas… also wrestled in Army West Point dual.
In 2019-20: Went 10-8 over 18 bouts at 157, primarily in open tournaments… finished fourth at Wilkes Open in late December and fifth at Edinboro Open in early February… went 1-2 to place fifth in his pool at Journeymen Collegiate Classic… went 1-2 at Southern Scuffle… also competed at Princeton Open, going 2-2.
In 2018-19: Deferred eligibility… went 7-6 competing unattached in open tournaments at 149… placed fourth at Wilkes Open in late December… also entered Princeton Open, Jonathan Kaloust Bearcat Open and Shorty Hitchcock Memorial Classic… had two technical falls and a major decision.
In high school: 2015 state champion at Waverly High School in New York…completed his high school career at Athens in Pennsylvania… three-time state place winner, finishing first and sixth in New York and capping his career with a fifth place finish in Pennsylvania…NHSCA All-American… two-time sectional champion… district and regional champion… ranked in top 10 percent of high school class… National Honor Society member.
Personal: Son of Dana Harbst-Burkhart and Jacob Burkhart… siblings Danielle Burkhart and Cooper Robinson… mother ran track at Bucknell.
