Why Lehigh?: “It is a wrestling powerhouse on the east coast as west as a top institution for academics.”

 

In 2008-09: Reached the All-American Round of 12 at the NCAA Championships, before losing to Pitt’s Zach Sheafer in the tiebreakers… was first Lehigh wrestler to reach the quarterfinals at the NCAA Championships since 2006… reached EIWA finals, losing in sudden victory… finished season with five falls, including two pins of Penn’s Trey McLean… pinned McLean at 9:32 mark in EIWA semifinals… won University National Freestyle championship in April.

 

In 2007-08: Deferred eligibility… went 5-2 to claim third place at Edinboro Open in lone open tournament appearance… qualified for U.S. Olympic Team Trials after winning Northeast Senior Freestyle tournament in Brockport, N.Y. in April… went 0-2 at Olympic Trials… ranked in the top ten nationally in freestyle in the heavyweight class.

 

In secondary school: Won state championship at heavyweight in each of his final two seasons… went undefeated as a senior… did not begin wrestling until the ninth grade but still became three-time state place-winner… ranked second at heavyweight and 48th overall by InterMat… was also a first team All-State lineman on the football field… three-time Academic All-League selection in both football and wrestling.

 

Personal: Son of Denise Rey… brothers Richard DeCicco (30), Aaron (21) and Michael (21).
