HAMILTON, N.Y. - On Saturday afternoon the Colgate Raiders were able to defeat Lehigh 68-66, courtesy of a last-second layup from Abby Ferguson.
With the game tied at 66 and less than 30 seconds remaining, Colgate held the ball for the final possession. Ella Meabon, who led the Raiders with 17 points, drove into the lane and found Ferguson open as time was winding down. Ferguson converted the game-winning basket to secure the victory for Colgate.
With the win the Raiders move to 2-8 in Patriot League play and 6-15 overall. Lehigh falls to 6-4 within the league and 10-10 overall on their season.
Lily Fandre finished with a game-high 23 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field. This afternoon's game marked the sixth time in her last eight games that Fandre scored 20 or more points.
The first half featured back-and-forth action, with Lehigh taking a one-point lead into the locker room. Fandre scored 14 of her points in the opening half. Colgate stayed within striking distance by shooting 4-of-8 from 3-point range in the first half, trailing by just one at the break.
Seven more points from Fandre helped the Mountain Hawks hang around in the third quarter, but Colgate countered with more efficient shooting to take a three-point lead into the fourth.
A 10-2 Colgate run, capped by Amarah Streiff's third made 3-pointer of the game, gave the Raiders a nine-point lead with 7:16 remaining.
The Mountain Hawks responded as Belle Bramer scored 10 of Lehigh's next 12 points and 10 of the next 14 overall to give Lehigh a 63-62 lead with just over four minutes remaining. The final four minutes featured only two made field goals, both by Colgate. Ella Meabon hit a jumper to tie the game at 66, before Abby Ferguson's game-winning layup sealed the victory for the Raiders.
