Lehigh Falls In Tournament Finale To SEMO

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a 2-0 day on Friday, Lehigh volleyball continued play from the Blue Raider Bash at Middle Tennessee University on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks faced off against Southeast Missouri State, falling in three sets to the Redhawks.
Set number went down to the wire between Lehigh (4-2) and SEMO (2-4) in an opening frame that saw both sides conduct solid runs. The Mountain Hawks climbed ahead by two after a 4-1 run to make the score 10-8, but the Redhawks responded with a 5-0 run of their own to lead 13-10. Lehigh then countered back with a 7-2 run, and the two teams traded blows until the set was tied at 24. The Redhawks converted off of Ramiri Gardner kill and Lehigh service error to narrowly take set one 26-24.
The second set between the Mountain Hawks and Redhawks began with neither side able to gain significant advantage. With the score tied 12-12, Lehigh used a 3-0 run to help generate some momentum, culminating in a 23-19 lead. However, the Redhawks concluded the frame on a 7-1 run to once again take the set by a score of 26-24. In the third set, the Redhawks captured the momentum from the beginning, defeating the Mountain Hawks 25-17 to clinch the three-set win.
Junior Natalie Luscomb tallied 11 kills to lead the Mountain Hawks in kills for the fourth time this season. Senior Makena Smith recorded 20 assists to lead Lehigh while senior Kyleigh Brown's 16 digs led the team.
Lehigh will head south for a joint tournament with the University of Maryland and UMBC on September 13-14. The Mountain Hawks will first face the Terrapins on Friday at 7 p.m.
