BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Two members of the Lehigh football program have been named finalists for major FCS national awards, Stats Perform announced on Monday. First-year running back Jaden Green has been named one of 25 finalists for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the FCS first-year national player of the year; while head coach Kevin Cahill was selected as one of 15 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented annually to the national coach of the year in FCS college football.

Both awards will be voted on by a national panel, with winners announced in early December. Winners will be honored at the Stats Perform FCS National Awards Banquet on Jan. 4 in Frisco, Texas.

Green follows in the footsteps of backfield mate Luke Yoder, who was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award last season. The San Francisco native is a two-time Patriot League Rookie of the Week this season. He has rushed for 693 yards and nine touchdowns, while averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Green has also been a factor in the return game for Lehigh, averaging 25.5 yards on 21 kickoff returns, with a long of 49 yards against Wagner.

On Saturday, Green was one of three Lehigh rushers to eclipse the 60-yard mark in Lehigh's 38-14 victory over Lafayette, gaining 69 yards on 11 carries, while opening the scoring in the first quarter with a 19-yard touchdown rush.

Cahill took a team coming off back-to-back 2-9 campaigns and picked sixth in the Patriot League, to an 8-3 overall mark, a 5-1 Patriot League mark and Lehigh's first Patriot League championship and FCS playoff appearance since 2017. Lehigh's six-win improvement over its 2023 record is tied for the second largest turnaround in FCS football.

With a roster consisting of 62 first or second-year players, Cahill's Mountain Hawks rank in the top 10 in the FCS in rushing offense, pass defense and total defense. Lehigh's eight victories and current five-game winning streak are its longest since the 2016 squad reeled off nine consecutive wins in a 9-3 Patriot League championship season. He is the first Lehigh coach to be a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award since the late Andy Coen in 2016.

The Mountain Hawks will face No. 9 seed Richmond Saturday in the first round of the FCS playoffs with game time set for 2 p.m. from Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va. Tickets to the contest will go on sale through Richmond at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning at this link: https://richmondspiders.evenue.net/events/FCS
