
Mountain Hawks Battle UAlbany To 2-1 Decision

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A late goal from the University at Albany Great Danes was the deciding factor in Lehigh's 2-1 loss to the non-league foe on Sunday.

Sunday's game was Lehigh field hockey's Pride Day presented by Lehigh's Pride Center and Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity.

The first half was a scoreless battle between the teams with the Great Danes outshooting Lehigh 5-1.

UAlbany (11-2) struck early into the third quarter, as Alison Smisdom scored off a straight sweep on a penalty corner.

Lehigh responded on a penalty corner at 1:51 left in the third. Guusje Hogendoorn assisted Julia Gatelein who put it away as Lehigh tied UAlbany 1-1. The equalizer was Gatelein's eighth goal of the season.

The Great Danes scored the game-winner off a give-and-go buildup through the attacking 50 meters with 54 seconds left.

UAlbany out-cornered Lehigh 7-2 and outshot the Mountain Hawks 18-4 with 13 shots coming in the second half.

Senior goalkeeper Jenny Canoni recorded eight saves while UAlbany's Lara Behn made two.
