BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After playing three-straight matches on the road, Lehigh volleyball returned to their home court on Friday night to take on the American University Eagles. The Mountain Hawks took the first set off of the Eagles but ultimately fell 3-1 at Leeman-Turner Arena.

"Tonight was a difficult match to lose," said head coach Alexa Kecker. "It was hard fought and American is a great team. We're going to have to bounce back, be resilient and get ready for Sunday."

Lehigh (10-7, 3-4 PL) got off to a fantastic start against American (15-4, 5-2 PL), earning a 25-20 win in set one. The Mountain Hawks registered a .350 hitting percentage as opposed to the Eagles' .170. A 4-0 run allowed Lehigh to reach set point at 24-19, and a kill from junior Natalie Luscomb sealed the deal.

The Mountain Hawks once again led early in set two, gaining a quick 7-3 lead. However, American rallied to take the lead back at 12-9. The two teams went back and forth until the score read 17-14 in favor of AU. From there, a 5-0 Lehigh run put the Mountain Hawks back in front, and they eventually found themselves with set point at 24-22. American scored the ensuing two points to extend the set, winning it by a slim margin of 28-26.

After starting their first two sets well, Lehigh again opened the third frame on a strong note, taking a 16-7 lead. However, American was not deterred, slowly but surely chipping away at the Mountain Hawk lead. Lehigh would reach set point with the score at 24-21, but the Eagles opened a 5-0 run to steal the third set 26-24. With the momentum now on their side, American earned a 25-17 set four win to clinch match point.

Luscomb led the team with 15 kills on an efficient .314 hitting percentage. Sophomore Alysia Fingall joined her with 15 kills of her own to go along with a team-high 18 digs. Senior Kyleigh Brown also reached 18 digs for Lehigh while setters Abby Felkai and Kamryn Utley led the squad with 23 and 20 assists respectively.

The Mountain Hawks return to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Sunday, October 13 to take on Holy Cross. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

"Execution when it matters will be key moving forward in the season," said Keckler.
