BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh wrestling had a pair of wrestlers recognized as Scholar All-Americans as the National Wrestling Coaches Association announced its year-end academic awards late Friday afternoon. Graduate student Tate Samuelson and senior Josh Humphreys both earned NWCA Scholar All-America honors.

Both Samuelson and Humphreys are repeat honorees from the NWCA with Samuelson earning his second academic award and Humphreys earning his fourth Scholar All-America honor.

Samuelson and Humphreys both won individual EIWA titles in 2023 and both were recently recognized with EIWA Academic Achievement Awards.

The individual Scholar All-America awards have qualifying standards based on grade point average and season record/accomplishments. The system for the NWCA's academic awards includes grade point averages for the 10 wrestlers that competed in their NCAA Tournament conference qualifier. If teams had less than 10 entries for their respective qualifier, they were allowed to fill those spots with wrestlers that competed in at least one varsity dual during the season.

Samuelson holds a 3.75 GPA in his technical entrepreneurship graduate program. He made the most of his lone season of competition for the Mountain Hawks, winning an EIWA championship at 184 and qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the fifth time in his career. Samuelson went 22-9 on the mats for the Mountain Hawks and went 1-2 at the NCAA Championships.

Humphreys is recognized for the second consecutive season. He holds a 3.56 GPA as a management major. Humphreys won his third EIWA title at 157 last month in Philadelphia and followed that up with his second All-America honor after finishing in third place at the NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla. He posted a 21-1 record in his senior season.

This year's individual Scholar All-America teams featured 291 individuals from 73 Division I institutions. The Mountain Hawks have now had multiple individual All-Academic honorees in 13 straight seasons and have totaled 22 honorees over the last five campaigns.

The 2022-23 Lehigh wrestling season is presented by the Historic Hotel Bethlehem.
