BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's six NCAA qualifiers learned their seeds and first round opponents Wednesday night as seeds and brackets for next week's NCAA Championships in Tulsa, Okla., were unveiled.
Â
Senior Josh Humphreys (157) and sophomore Michael Beard (197) lead the way for the Mountain Hawks as they both earned No. 5 seeds at their respective weight classes.
Â
Humphreys captured his third EIWA championship this past weekend and enters the NCAA Tournament at 16-0. He will open with the No. 28 seed Paddy Gallagher of Ohio State.
Â
Beard was the EIWA runner-up at 197 and owns a 19-3 record this season. His first opponent will be No. 28 Jacob Koser of Navy. Beard already owns two wins over Koser this season, including Sunday in the EIWA semifinals.
Â
Sophomore Connor McGonagle became Lehigh's sixth qualifier when he earned an at-large berth at 133 on Tuesday. McGonagle is the No. 11 seed and will open with No. 22 Chance Rich of CSU-Bakersfield in the round of 32.
Â
EIWA Champion Tate Samuelson earned the No. 17 seed at 184 and will open with No. 16 Reece Heller of Pitt. Samuelson will look to avenge a one-point loss to the Panther back in November.
Â
Coming off a runner-up finish at the EIWA Championships, first-year heavyweight Nathan Taylor eared the No. 21 seed. His opening round opponent is No. 12 seed Colton McKiernan of SIU-Edwardsville.
Â
Sophomore Malyke Hines is seeded 22nd at 141 and will battle No. 11 Clay Carlson of South Dakota State in the first round.
Â
Seeds and brackets remain subject to change until the start of the tournament.
Â
Action at the 92nd NCAA Championships begins Thursday March 16 from BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., and runs through Saturday March 18. There will be no Lehigh audio coverage of this year's tournament but the entire tournament will be televised on the ESPN family of networks with streaming video of every mat available on ESPN+.
