Bains, Hurly Pace Lehigh Squads On Day One Of Lehigh Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's "B" team stole the show on day one of the Lehigh Invitational as the second five Mountain Hawks shot five over par 293 Friday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club to top a 13-team field. The Mountain Hawks' "A" team shot 302 Friday and sits in seventh place.
The "B" team leads second place Evansville by two strokes, while Monmouth is third, four strokes behind the Mountain Hawks.
Junior Jahan Bains led the way for the Mountain Hawks Friday. Playing for the "B" team, Bains shot one under par 71, making three birdies and one double bogey to sit in a tie for third place, three strokes behind co-leaders Harry Dessel of Lafayette and Evan Sitts of Binghamton.
Graduate student David Hurly led the "A" team shooting even par 72 as he sits in a tie for fifth place. Hurly made eagle 3 on the first hole and added four birdies in his round.
Sophomore Jake Roth matched Hurly with a 72 for the "B" team and is part of the tie for fifth place. Roth made four birdies and four bogeys in his round.
Graduate student Sam Barton and first-year Matt Quinn carded three over par 75 for the "B" team and are tied for 24th place. Quinn did make three birdies in his opening round.
Junior Aidan Oehrle was second among Lehigh's "A" team players with a four over par 76. Oehrle carded four birdies including one on 18 to finish on a high note.
Three Mountain Hawks shot 77 and are part of a tie for 39th: junior Edmund Broderick (A), first-year Charles Schrohe (B) and sophomore Will Caronchi (A). Caronchi made two birdies while Broderick and Schrohe both made one. Broderick's came on the last hole.
Sophomore Aiden LeBlanc is tied for seventh after shooting 79. LeBlanc carded a pair of birdies in his round.
Lehigh's lone individual, sophomore Paulius Malcius, had a strong day, shooting two over par 74. Malcius made one birdie and is tied for 15th place.
The Lehigh Invitational concludes with the final round Saturday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Lehigh's "A" team will play with Iona and individuals, going off the first tee beginning at 9:30 a.m., while the "B" team will play with Evansville and Monmouth going off No. 1 beginning at 11:10 a.m.
