Lehigh Opens Spring Season With First 36 Holes at The Big Texan Invitational

KERRVILLE, Texas – Playing in its first tournament of the spring season, the Lehigh men's golf team shook off a tough opening round to post a 22 stroke improvement in round two at the Big Texan Invitational Monday at Comanche Trace. The Mountain Hawks rebounded from 324 in the morning to shoot 302 in the afternoon and enter Tuesday's final round in 13th place at 626.
 
Sophomore Marco Arosemena led the way for the Mountain Hawks with the low round of the day, a second round one over par 73. Arosemena made two birdies in round two and is tied for 49th place at 154 (81-73).
 
Junior David Hurly is one stroke behind Arosemena as she shot 155 (81-74) and is tied for 51st place. Hurly's second round 74 included three birdies and an eagle on the par 5 18th hole.
 
The low round in Monday morning's first round was turned in by junior Daniel Song, who made four birdies while posting a score of 80. He added a fifth birdie for the day in a second round 77 and is tied for 54th place at 157.
 
Sophomore Edmund Broderick led Lehigh with six total birdies on the day. He made one in an opening round 87 and came back with five in the afternoon as he shot 78 to sit in 63rd place at 165. Junior Sam Barton is one stroke back at 166 following rounds of 82 and 84. Barton made three birdies in his 36 holes Monday.
 
New Orleans leads the team race at three under par 573 (288-285), one stroke better than Southeastern Louisiana. Seton Hall, Midland CC and Northern Colorado are all tied for third.
 
The 36 hole individual leader is Joe Buenfeld from Incarnate Word who shot eight under par 136 (68-68) to take a three stroke lead over players from Northern Colorado and Southeastern Louisiana.
 
The Big Texan Invitational concludes with the final 18 holes Tuesday. A shotgun start is set for 8:30 a.m. CT.
