BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh senior running back RaShawn Allen has been named one of 176 finalists for the 2021 William V. Campbell Trophy, the National Football Foundation announced Wednesday. The William V. Campbell Trophy recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.

Allen carries a 3.75 cumulative GPA in Lehigh's rigorous electrical engineering program. He is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has earned Dean's List distinction with a GPA better than 3.60 in four of his first six semesters, including a 4.0 in the spring of 2020.

A team captain in 2021, Allen led the Mountain Hawks in rushing during the spring 2021 campaign, with 128 yards in three games, highlighted by a 49-yard touchdown run at Lafayette. The Canton, Mich., native has 858 rushing yards and four touchdowns in 28 career games for the Mountain Hawks. Allen rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start as a freshman at Navy in 2018. He has started 18 consecutive games at running back since the start of the 2019 season.

Allen keeps a wide range of off-field interests. He is a founding member of the Lehigh chapter of Student Athletes of Color for Change and a member of the Lehigh chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. Allen has also written a pair of novels, "The Canton Greats" and "The Canton Greats Take the World," under the pen name Ronald Jermaine Love.

This marks the fourth time in the last five years that a Lehigh football player has been named a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy. Pete Haffner was recognized in 2020, joining Harrison Kauffman in 2018 and Jimmy Mitchell in 2017.

The 176 semifinalists were nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee per school. Candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility and must have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale while also displaying outstanding football ability and strong leadership and citizenship. The candidates come from all levels of play in the NCAA and the NAIA. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

From the 176 semifinalists, the National Football Foundation will announce 12-14 finalists in late October and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. One of the finalists will be named the winner of the 32nd Campbell during the 63rd NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 7 and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.

Lehigh returns to Goodman Stadium Saturday to host Yale on Tackle Cancer Day presented by Red Robin in partnership with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Game time is set for noon. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com or by calling 610-7LU-GAME during business hours.
