The win snapped an eight-game losing streak against Bucknell, marking Lehigh's first win over the Bison since 2011. The Mountain Hawks are now 2-0 in Patriot League play for the first time since 1996. Lehigh opened a season with consecutive shutouts for the first time since 2000, and are 2-0 for consecutive seasons for the first time since 1974 and 1975 (the second and third seasons in program history).
Â
"Today was the best day out on the field that we've had in terms of weather. There have been some pretty cold mornings, so I think it really helped set the tone, being out there with the sunshine," said Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer. "It was also the first time our parents have been able to come to a game. We were really excited to be able to see them.
Â
"It was Senior Day too, so going into the game, we knew we wanted to play with the characteristics our senior Steph Brabender emulates every day," Dallmeyer continued. "That's being selfless, working hard and making sure we're putting servant leadership out on the field."
Â
Freshman Lotte Smorenburg helped set up the game's first goal as her pressure created a penalty stroke, which Havas put home at the 7:33 mark. The Mountain Hawks finished the first quarter with a 6-1 edge in shots.
Â
Less than five minutes into the second quarter, Lehigh doubled its lead. Junior Sam Nason fired the ball towards cage, which was blocked by a Bucknell defender, but sophomore MJ Schwab converted the rebound at 19:46.

The Mountain Hawks scored twice more in the third, first coming at the 33:09 mark. Off a penalty corner, junior Olivia Perrone slipped a pass to Havas, whose ensuing shot deflected off a defender's stick, high past goalkeeper Peyton Fischer for a 3-0 lead.

Gatelein added insurance at 40:20, corralling the rebound following a hard shot from Perrone. Gatelein lifted the shot past Fischer for a 4-0 advantage.

From there, Bucknell fired eight of the game's final nine shots, but Kahn made five saves over the game's final 16:55 to preserve the shot. Two games, two goals for Julia Gatelein, who put home this rebound for the fourth and final goal of the afternoon! pic.twitter.com/myuaSNUyl1

Final shots were tied at 18 while the Bison held an 8-6 edge in penalty corners.
The Mountain Hawks will return to action in two Sundays, hosting Holy Cross on Apr. 4 at 11 a.m.
Â
"I think the people who are well connected to our athletes know the sacrifice they've made and how hard they've worked to be able to get to this point to be able to string together some great games and great plays," said Dallmeyer. "It's validating for our team to be able to put out these wins because we want to see that hard work put out results, but I don't think people who are well connected to our program are surprised."
