BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's cross country team could have asked for a better start to its season. The Mountain Hawks had the top four finishers and nine of the top 10 runners this evening, as they defeated the Greyhounds by a score of 16-47. The highlight of the evening for the men was senior Michael Mitchell. Mitchell's outstanding 5K time of 14:36 gave him individual win.

After watching the women's team put on clinic right before them, the men were eager to follow suit and start their season. With only 13 runners competing, the Mountain Hawks picked right up where the women left off. The 25-lap race started jam-packed between both teams, but a certain five student-athletes quickly broke away from a pack of runners to set the pace.

Mitchell, Connor Melko, Nick Norton and Brad DeMassa were the top four the entire race. Loyola's Nath Gallaway was the fifth runner right behind Lehigh's top four the majority of the race. Mitchell, Melko and Norton exchanged leads throughout the first half of the race, but then Mitchell let loose. With nine laps remaining, Mitchell excelled past the field and put a huge cushion between himself and his teammates and competitors. The senior easily won the race with a time of 14:36.

The sophomore Melko finished second with a time of 14:47, while Norton finished third for the Mountain Hawks with a time of 14:56. DeMassa's time of 15:10 was good enough for fourth. Nick Wilson finished sixth for Lehigh with a time of 15:31 and Avery Lederer was seventh with a time of 15:32.

Rounding out the top 10 for Lehigh was James Keaney (eighth) at 15:35, Tyler French with a time of 15:50 and Riley Williamson at 15:59.

Freshman Will Tikob was the tenth Lehigh runner to finish and 12th overall with a time of 16:05, while Thomas Leitner finished 13th with a time of 16:05. Teammates Griffin Pumila and Jake Martinez concluded the night with times of 16:18.

Up next, Lehigh is scheduled to compete against its rival Lafayette next Saturday in Easton.
