10/4/2021 3:26:00 PM | Field Hockey
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Guusje Hogendoorn of Lehigh field hockey was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday following a strong effort as part of the Mountain Hawks' dominant defense over the weekend. A starting defender, Lehigh allowed just one goal and 13 shots (only four on goal) over a pair of victories.
Â
With Hogendoorn's honor, the Mountain Hawks have now won all four Patriot League weekly awards at least once this season.
Â
Saturday at Holy Cross, Lehigh allowed zero first-half shots and just four shots (zero shots on goal) for the game - both season lows for the Crusaders. The Mountain Hawks won 5-0 for their largest-ever margin of victory against Holy Cross. Then on Sunday, the Mountain Hawks' defense allowed just nine shots, only four of which were on goal, at Merrimack.
Â
Three other Lehigh players were also recognized as honorable mention on the Patriot League weekly honor roll – graduate student Lenke Havas, senior Leah Mullery and junior Maddie Kahn.
Â
Lehigh is currently riding a four-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 20-3 over that stretch. The Mountain Hawks are 8-3 overall, 3-0 in the Patriot League for the first time since 1996. Lehigh will return home on Saturday to host No. 25 American at 11 a.m. Then on Sunday, the Mountain Hawks will host Temple at 1 p.m. Both games can be seen on ESPN+.
