BETHLEHEM, Pa. – It's an exciting weekend for both men's and women's teams of the Lehigh swimming and diving programs, as the Mountain Hawks open their home slate on Friday vs. West Chester at 5 p.m. and Saturday vs. Rider at 1 p.m at Jacobs Pool.

The women are coming off a season-opening victory at Loyola Maryland on Saturday to start the year 1-0 for the second consecutive season, while the men are reeling following a defeat to the Greyhounds, looking to get back on track against two opponents at home.

On the women's side, it was junior Danielle Prekop who accounted for three of Lehigh's 11 first place finishes on the afternoon with victories in the 100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley events. Freshman Natalie Martin picked up two first place wins in the 1000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle, while fifth-year senior Ann Foley had two wins in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events, earning her an honorable mention nod from the Patriot League.

On the boards, freshman Sarah Gill showcased her craft by taking home a first-place finish in the one-meter dive for her collegiate debut with a score of 243.07 and very nearly also winning on the three-meter dive, finishing second with a score of 230.92, just 5.78 points behind the victor.

On the men's side, the Mountain Hawks struggled for the most part with just one first-place finish against Loyola, courtesy of senior Owen Thomas who swam the 100-yard backstroke to a time of 50.91. Senior Glenn Lasco had three second place results in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.70), 50-yard freestyle (21.01) and 100-yard freestyle (46.13).

Senior Addison Cochran repped the men on the diving board with a second-place finish in both the one-meter (240.22) and three-meter (246.60) dives.

Division II West Chester has had a strong start to the season so far with the women starting the 2021-22 campaign off 4-0 and the men 3-1. The women last defeated Arcadia, 165-84 with men also getting a victory, 164-88.

Rider is a familiar foe at Jacobs Pool for Lehigh, with the men (1-0) coming in after a win over Seton Hall and the women (0-1) looking to get back on track following a loss to the Pirates.

Against the Rams, the men are 20-10 all time and the women have a record of 6-7. In the all-time series against the Broncs, Rider holds an 11-8 advantage for the men and Lehigh leads 12-8 for the women.

Per the recommendation of the CDC and Lehigh University policy, spectators are required to wear face masks while indoors on campus.
