BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Along with posting its most wins on the field since 2007, the Lehigh field hockey team also impressed in the classroom and has been recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The Mountain Hawks garnered the team award for a recording a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher this fall. In addition, eight student-athletes were named to the National Academic Squad for a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher through the fall semester. Senior Amanda Boyer and freshman Anna Piecuch were named Scholars of Distinction for a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the fall.
Â
It marked the 17th straight year that Lehigh field hockey garnered the team award. Boyer and Piecuch were two of the eight named to the National Academic Squad, along with Lenke Havas, Maddie Kahn, Anna Lehman, Sophie Leighton, Maddie Monahan and MJ Schwab.
Â
Boyer wasn't only named to the National Academic Squad, but she was also named a Scholar of Distinction for a fourth straight season. She remains the only student-athlete in program history to earn the honor multiple years. Boyer was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team for a third straight season and won the team's Scholar-Athlete award in back-to-back years.
Â
On the field, highlights were aplenty for the Mountain Hawks in 2019. Lehigh improved its final record to 7-11, including 2-4 in league play. The Mountain Hawks finished in a three-way tie for fourth place (with Holy Cross and Boston University), but the Crusaders won the tiebreaker. Fourth was Lehigh's best finish since the expansion of the Patriot League to seven teams (with the addition of Boston University). Along with their best start since 1983 and best overall record since 2007, the Mountain Hawks' 35 goals were also their most since 2007 while their 43 goals allowed were fewest since 2003. Lehigh's goal differential (-8) was also its best since 2004.
