BETHLEHEM, Pa. — For the second consecutive year, Lehigh women's basketball senior Hannah Hedstrom is a CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 selection.
To be eligible for the award, a player must have a 3.30 GPA and played in 50 percent of the team's games on the season. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. District 2 includes schools from Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, West Virginia and the District of Columbia in addition to Pennsylvania.
Hedstrom joins Loyola's Delaney Connolly as the Patriot League's lone representatives on the list for the 2019-20 season.
The Minnetonka, Minn. native graduated in three years with a degree in Biology and a cumulative grade point average of 3.97. For her final year of athletic eligibility, Hedstrom is in the process of obtaining her master's degree in Healthcare Systems Engineering and earned a GPA of 3.90 during the Fall 2019 semester.
Along with being a two-time Academic All-District selection, Hedstrom is a two-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League team and has all the credentials she needs to have the chance to be the Patriot League's Scholar Athlete of the Year for the first time at season's end. In January, she was named one of 30 national candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award.
A four-year starter at point guard, with 115 starts in 116 games, Hedstrom has led the Mountain Hawks in assists per game in each of the last three seasons. She currently leads the way this season with 3.2 assists per game, with an opportunity to become the first player in the program since Sherie Androlewicz to lead the team in assists all four seasons.
Earlier this season, Hedstrom became just the second player in program history to reach at least 500 career rebounds and 300 career assists. She is currently on track to reach 500 career points, 400 assists and 550 rebounds for her career.
Hedstrom will now be in the running for Academic All-America honors, which will be awarded later in the season after another vote from CoSIDA members.
Hedstrom and her teammates return to the court Saturday afternoon with a matchup at Bucknell with just four games remaining in the regular season.
