Kelly, Dotta low Mountain Hawks in round one of UConn Invitational at GreatHorse

HAMPDEN, Mass. – Day one of the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse saw the Lehigh men's golf team shoot 317 Sunday at GreatHorse, leaving the Mountain Hawks in 13th place.
 
Senior Ryan Kelly led the way for the Mountain Hawks, shooting six over par 78 to end day one tied for 41st place. Kelly's day included a team-best three birdies.
 
One stroke behind Kelly was senior Owen Quinn, who carded two birdies and is tied for 54th place after a 79.
 
Freshmen David Hurly and Sam Barton both shot 80 and are tied for 63rd place. Hurly birdied the sixth hole while Barton made his two birdies on 11 and 14.
 
Lehigh's fifth scoring player was freshman Alex Aurora, who shot 87 after a tough back nine and is tied for 80th place.
 
The Mountain Hawks got a strong performance from freshman Joey Dotta, who is competing as an individual. Dotta shot 78 matching Kelly and is also tied for 41st. He carded two birdies in his opening round.
 
Lafayette and Columbia are tied for the 18-hole team lead at four over par 292, with Rider in third place, two strokes off the pace.
 
Ryan Tomaso of Hartford shot five under par 67 and holds a four stroke lead over four players.
 
The UConn Invitational at GreatHorse continues Monday with round two. Lehigh will play with Wagner and UConn and will go off the 10th tee beginning at 9:25 a.m.
