CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — After trailing 9-1 to open the first set, Lehigh volleyball continued to claw back from deficits to defeat UNC Greensboro (25-23, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17), 3-1 to finish out the Jefferson Cup tournament hosted by Virginia, winning two of the three matches for the weekend. The Mountain Hawks improve to 7-7 on the season, entering Patriot League play next weekend with a .500 overall record.

Lehigh didn't hesitate to mount a comeback in the first set after falling behind early, able to claw back before taking a lead at 19-18. The Mountain Hawks held on for the set victory, 25-23 after a UNCG attack error. Lehigh hit .133 for the set, but did enough to hold the advantage over the Spartans.

Trailing 4-3 to open the second set, Lehigh won five straight points to take an 8-4 lead over UNCG. The Mountain Hawks capped off a 25-20 set victory with a Sabrina Lancaster kill from Sarah Carman.

A back-and-forth contest ensued between the two teams in the third set before UNCG won the final two points of extra time to win it, 26-24. After hitting .462 in the second set and dominating on the offensive side of the ball, the Mountain Hawks hit just .158, evident by the defeat.

Lehigh's .250 hitting percentage with 13 kills in the fourth set became the difference maker, as Lehigh took control, winning it 25-17 and the match 3-1. The Mountain Hawks have now won two of their last three matches.

Junior Sabrina Lancaster was the highlight of the match for Lehigh on Saturday, tallying 21 kills, one shy of her career-best with an attack percentage of .486. She also registered 14 digs with two block assists and two solo blocks. The performance marks just the second double-double of the season for Lancaster. She has registered 146 kills through her first 14 matches on the season. Senior Emily Poole and sophomore Ava Hudson each had six kills for the Mountain Hawks' attack, while Lauren Bright added four with six block assists and Jess Donaldson, Julia Pressly and Hannah Wright each finished with three kills.

Freshman libero Natalie Mavroidis had 11 digs to her credit, while sophomore setter Sarah Carman continued her impressive stretch of play with 40 assists and 10 digs. Carman also added two kills as she increases her double-double count to four matches on the season. Through 14 non-league matches, Carman has 435 assists.

Lehigh ended up hitting .238 for the match with more service aces (7), blocks (13), assists (47) and digs (59) than UNC Greensboro.

For their performances, Carman and Bright were named to the Jefferson Cup All-Tournament team.

The Mountain Hawks head to Easton on Friday for the Patriot League opener at archrival Lafayette. Lehigh defeated the Leopards in both matches last season.
