
Mountain Hawks tied for ninth after round one of Navy Spring Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – An opening round 307 has the Lehigh men's golf team tied for ninth place at the Navy Invitational Friday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Senior Lee Hammerschmidt shot three over par 74 to lead the way for the Mountain Hawks. Hammerschmidt is tied for 13th place but is just three strokes behind the 18-hole leader Ryan Rodriguez of Binghamton.
Senior Max Redetzke is two strokes behind Hammerschmidt after shooting 76. Redetzke is tied for 25th place.
Also competing for the Mountain Hawks are junior Ryan Kelly, who is tied for 31st place after shooting 77; freshman Michael Tanaka, who shot 80 and is tied for 55th; and junior Owen Quinn, who shot 83 and is tied for 74th.
Saint Joseph's shot a 293 to take the team lead by four strokes, with Lafayette and Binghamton tied for second, four shots off the pace.
Twenty-four players are within four strokes of the lead entering the final day of play.
The Navy Spring Invitational concludes Saturday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
