Mountain Hawks drop road contest at Villanova
8/26/2018 8:22:00 PM | Women's Soccer
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova scored on all four of its shots on goal to down the Lehigh women's soccer team, 4-0 on Sunday. The Wildcats opened the scoring in the game's sixth minute and added three insurance goals in the second. The loss drops the Mountain Hawks to 1-2 on the season while Villanova improves to 3-1.
"Sometimes, you just play a team where everything they shoot finds the back of the net," said Lehigh head coach Eric Lambinus. "They had nine shots, two corner kicks and four went in. I thought Villanova outworked us, especially in the second half. We can still take a lot out of today. We had opportunities, but it was a difference of a team putting home their chances and we didn't put any in."
Villanova scored on the game's first shot at the 5:31 mark before Lehigh tallied the next two shots and three of the final four in the first half. Junior Maggie Wadsworth tallied Lehigh's first two shots, and first shot on goal, but couldn't convert and the Wildcats went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
The margin extended in the second with goals in the 47th, 57th and 70th minutes to account for the 4-0 final.
Final shots were 9-6 in favor of Villanova while the Wildcats held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Mountain Hawks will look to rebound this Friday (Aug. 31) when they travel to Monmouth for a 7 p.m. opening kickoff.
