BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong weekend at Colgate and Cornell, Lehigh field hockey sophomore Paige Innarella has been named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season, as announced on Monday. Innarella's weekend was highlighted by a six-save shutout in a 1-0 win at Colgate Saturday.
The weekly award marks the Mountain Hawks' fifth of the season. Along with Innarella's two Goalkeeper of the Week honors, junior Teresa Carotenuto also won Offensive Player of the Week, senior Jackie Renda won Midfielder of the Week and freshman Drew Pecora was named Rookie of the Week. The five weekly awards are Lehigh's most in a season since 2011. It marks the first time in program history Lehigh has won each award at least once.
Innarella made five first-half saves to keep the Mountain Hawks scoreless at the half, despite being outshot 8-4. In the end, she earned her third shutout of the season and the fourth solo shutout of her career (she was also involved in two other shutouts as a freshman when she didn't play the entire game). Innarella went on to make nine saves at Cornell Sunday. Six of the saves were in the first half as she kept the Mountain Hawks within striking distance (1-0) after 35 minutes of play.
Innarella has helped spearhead a strong Lehigh defense that allowed one goal or fewer in six games this season. Saturday marked Lehigh's third 1-0 win of the year, Lehigh's most 1-0 victories in a season since 2000. The win helped Lehigh finish ahead of Lafayette for the first time since 2007. The teams finished tied for fifth place in the final Patriot League standings, but the Mountain Hawks own the tiebreaker due to their 1-0 overtime victory against the Leopards.
Innarella finished her sophomore season with a 2.68 goals against average and 0.695 save percentage.
Freshman Drew Pecora also garnered honorable mention recognition after scoring the game's only goal in Saturday's win at Colgate.
