The Lehigh Men's Ice Hockey team won an exhilarating OT game up in Jamestown, NY against a strong Mercyhurst team on Saturday, October 17. The Lehigh boys began the game well with energy, shots, and a lot of pressure on the puck. Lehigh's work paid off and they finished the 1st period up 2-1. Goals were scored by Jason Langevin (Fr.) and Andres Binotto (Sr.). In the 2nd period, Mercyhurst came out early playing hard and scored an equalizing goal to tie the game at 2-2. In the 3rd period, Lehigh showed spurts of dominance that had been seen primarily in the 1st period and regained the lead with a stellar goal scored by Jake Kerz (Fr.). However, Mercyhurst scored a goal in the final minute of play after pulling their goalie. With the 3rd period ending in a 3-3 tie, a 5-minute, 3-on-3 OT occurred. After ending the 3-on-3 still scoreless, a 3-man shootout took place. The first shooter in the shootout was Ryder Griffith (Fr.) who put it past Mercyhurst's goalie by faking the shot and then putting it around him. After this, Sean McGowan (Fr.) confidently stood tall and rejected the 3 Mercyhurst shots. Sean's performance allowed for the single goal scored by Griffith in the shootout to give Lehigh the win. With another win under their belts, the Lehigh Men's Ice Hockey team is excited for their next match at home on Friday, October 13th @ 7:45 pm against last year's ECHA champion, Drexel.
