Volleyball Heads to Navy, Loyola for a Pair of Patriot League Matches

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a big win over rival Lafayette at home on Wednesday night to open Patriot League play, the Lehigh volleyball team will continue its conference slate this weekend with matches at Navy and Loyola.
The Mountain Hawks will face the Midshipmen at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. Live stats and live video will be provided by Navy.
Due to security restrictions in place, only vehicles with a Department of Defense sticker on them will be allowed to drive onto the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy for ALL events. ALL VISITORS ARE REQUIRED to either park downtown and walk-in through the Visitors Center and its security checkpoint at Gate One (located at the corner of King George St. and Randall St. in downtown Annapolis; for GPS purposes use 52 King George St., Annapolis, MD 21402), or else park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium ($5. per vehicle) and ride the free shuttle bus to and from The Yard.
On Saturday, Lehigh will head to Baltimore, Md. to face Loyola at 2 p.m. at Reitz Arena. Live stats will be available and live stream will provided by the Patriot League Network.
The Mountain Hawks recorded their third sweep of the season with Wednesday's victory over Lafayette and improve to 5-9 on the season. The trio of Emily Poole, Tori Hemsath and Ana Spangenberg led Lehigh with eight kills, while Poole led the bunch with a .400 hitting percentage on the night. Megan Polak once again led in the assist category with 28. She has now reached over 20 assists seven times this season. Mariah Brantley led the team with 10 digs to go along with a team-high three service aces on the night.
Navy will open its Patriot League schedule in Friday night's matchup with Lehigh. The Midshipmen have compiled a record of 10-2 on the season and are winners of their last three matches. Dorothy Murray leads the team with 84 kills to go with a .283 hitting percentage. Patricia Mattingly has a team-leading 315 assists to go with 90 digs, 35 kills and eight service aces. Sydney Sherman leads the team with 162 digs and has a team-high 14 service aces. Katie Patrick leads Navy with 36 total blocks, including nine solo blocks, and has compiled 54 kills on the season.
Loyola will open its Patriot League slate on Friday night at home against Lafayette before hosting the Mountain Hawks on Saturday. The Greyhounds are led offensively by Ann Ernst who has recorded 147 kills with a .147 hitting percentage. Megan Mondon is the team's assist leader with 168, while Molly Werts is not far behind at 158. Erin Cunningham is Loyola's leader in digs with 108. Molly Jarvis and Haley Puddy pace the team in blocks with 32 and 30, respectively.
Lehigh is 0-4 in road contests this season in matches against Central Connecticut State, Alabama, Villanova and Pittsburgh. Navy is 2-1 on its home floor this season with victories over New Hampshire and Coppin State, and a loss to Delaware. Loyola is 0-1 at home in a 3-1 loss to George Washington.
The Mountain Hawks finished third in the Patriot League standings last season and qualified for the postseason tournament with a conference record of 11-5. Navy went 7-9 in league play last season, while Loyola finished with a record of 1-15 as both did not qualify for the Patriot League postseason.
The Midshipmen own a 29-26 advantage over the Mountain Hawks in the all-time series as the two teams split the season series last year with the home team winning both contests. Lehigh owns a record of 12-3 against Loyola in the all-time series and has won 10-straight matches over the Greyhounds, including a streak of four-straight 3-0 sweeps.
