BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team got within five points of first-place Bucknell on multiple occasions in the second half, but couldn't complete the comeback attempt as the Mountain Hawks fell 67-54 to the Bison Wednesday night inside Stabler Arena. Lehigh's six-game win streak comes to a halt as the Mountain Hawks fall to 15-8 overall and 8-4 in league play, while Bucknell improves to 17-6 overall and 11-1 in Patriot League action.

"Bucknell came out with a great amount of energy and executed well in the first half, which we weren't able to match," said head coach Sue Troyan. "We played with a lot more intensity and emotion in the second half, but are obviously disappointed with the result. We know we're capable of playing with them, and we didn't have our best today."

Senior Elizabeth Sharlow led the Mountain Hawks with 13 points behind a 6-for-8 showing from the field, while classmate Kerry Kinek followed with 11 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Junior Lexi Martins and sophomore Quinci Mann chipped in eight points apiece.

Bucknell was led by Jacquie Klotz with 24 points, 19 of which came in the second half, and Claire DeBoer with 15 points.

Lehigh finished the game shooting 36.2 percent (21-for-58) from the field, 26.3 percent from three-point range (5-for-19) and 70 percent (7-for-10) from the free-throw line. The Bison went 43.9 percent (25-for-57) from the field and 45 percent (9-for-20) from downtown. Bucknell held a 40-29 rebound advantage.

A three-pointer from freshman Hailey Pascoe gave Lehigh an early 3-2 lead before a pair of treys from DeBoer comprised a 6-1 Bucknell run that put the Bison in front 8-4 two and a half minutes into the first quarter. Bucknell was ahead by six at 12-6 with 5:46 on the clock, but four Lehigh layups helped the Mountain Hawks put together an 8-2 run over the next three minutes to tie the score at 14 with 2:32 left in the quarter. DeBoer answered with her third trey of the night, but a Mann jumper and Martins bank shot ended the quarter to give the Mountain Hawks an 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Bison spent the first six minutes of the second quarter on a 17-3 run to jump ahead 34-21 and wind the first-half clock down to 4:04. A three-pointer from senior Amina Affini stopped the Bucknell streak and sparked a 9-2 Lehigh run that saw four points from Martins and two from Mann over the next three minutes as the Mountain Hawks cut the gap to 36-30 with 1:04 to play. A Kyi English three-pointer ended the half to give Bucknell a 39-30 halftime lead.

A pair of three-pointers from Klotz helped the Bison score six of the second half's first nine points as Bucknell pulled ahead 45-33 with 5:53 left in the third quarter. Kinek scored five unanswered points to trim the lead to 45-38 before Klotz answered with another three. Lehigh bounced right back with a layup from Sharlow and three-pointer from sophomore Bernadette Devaney to close out the 10-3 Lehigh run that trimmed the Bucknell lead to 48-43 and wound the clock down to 1:22. The teams traded a pair of free throws to end the quarter as Bucknell entered the final 10 minutes of play with a 50-45 lead.

The Bison scored the first six points of the final quarter and kept Lehigh scoreless for the first five minutes of the term until six-straight points from Sharlow cut the Bucknell lead down to 56-51 with 3:33 to play. Bucknell stopped the Lehigh streak with the next five points to re-extend its lead to 61-51 at the 2:31 mark. The lead proved to be too much to overcome as the Bison earned the 67-54 win.

The Mountain Hawks return to action Sunday when Lehigh travels to Holy Cross for a 1 p.m. contest. Free video will be available on the Patriot League Network.
