HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh volleyball team saw its unblemished Patriot League record and four-match win streak come to an end on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks suffered a 3-0 loss on the road at Colgate.

Lehigh is now 8-10 overall and 4-1 in the Patriot League, while Colgate improves to 7-8 and is also 4-1 in PL play. The loss to Colgate also snaps a three-match win streak Lehigh had going against the Raiders.

Victoria Hemsath led the offense with six kills on the day while Kelly Bennett, Julia Pressly and Lauren Bright each tallied five. Megan Polak led all setters with 25 assists.

Emily Develle led the team with 12 digs, while Hemsath and Bennett each accounted for four blocks.

The two sides played a competitive battle in the first set which ultimately resulted in a 26-24 victory for Colgate. Lehigh ripped off five-straight points to take a 9-6 lead and later went on another 5-0 run to open up a 15-10 lead. The Mountain Hawks fought off a Colgate through the middle stages of the set and built up a 21-16 advantage and had victory in their sights. Unfortunately, Colgate found its groove and out-scored Lehigh 10-3 down the stretch to win the first set.

Colgate would go on to dominate the second and third sets, winning by a combined margin of 26 points in the final two frames. The Raiders pulled away late in the second set after playing it close and then rushed out to a 13-3 lead in the third to put Lehigh in hole it could climb out of.

The Mountain Hawks will have another tough task ahead of them next Friday night when they travel to Patriot League preseason favorite American. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C.
